Kidzland Presents
Paradox The Robot
Have you ever seen a robot that moves with amazing mechanical agility? Yet thinks and acts like humans do? If not, welcome to the world of Paradox The Robot whose unique blend of impressive movements and hilarious characters has enthralled audiences around the world.

For over twenty years, André Clérin has performed many different characters. He specializes in robotic mime with his character Paradox the Robot.   An excellent improviser, his ability to mingle and incorporate the audience's reactions are subtle, surprising and always brings belly laughs.   Programmed to entertain, he becomes a magnifying glass of the people surrounding him.   His visual comedy is inspired by silent movies and more contemporary clowns (Chaplin, Mr. Bean). With a remarkable mime agility he is also an accomplished comedian in English or French., and his versatility adapts to the needs of any special event.

André Clérin started his career as a teenager when he founds a mime group who uses innovative techniques. He later trained as an actor at John Abbott College. He wrote and played in a short film broadcasted several times at CBC. In 1983, he created an innovative robotic character, Paradox the Robot, that fascinated the public and gave him artistic recognition. He has performed at the International Cervantino Festival in Mexico and at the World Fairs of South Korea, Australia and Vancouver. He performs in shows with circus artists for theatres, festivals and major corporate events.

André Clérin teaches in elementary and high schools as well as l'École de cirque de Québec. He participates in an innovative Art and Education program in Nicaragua for the Fondation Guy-Laliberté, the social department of the Cirque du Soleil. Since 2004, he has been part of Artists at School. This workshop is intended to stimulate the student’s creativity, and to allow them to experience non-verbal communication. After a brief demonstration, the students are introduced to modern mime techniques and their classical origins. They will experiment with pantomime, robotic mime, slow motion, etc and they are encouraged to explore techniques and use it to create characters, movements, and situations.
