| Last year’s 150th Anniversary Fair was awesome, thanks to Directors, Executive members, office staff, and our many volunteers. We have our work cut out for us to try and surpass, or even match, last year’s events. I, with the help of all, will strive to accomplish this endeavour, God and weather permitting.
Our 2007 Fair has, as in Fairs past, events that will delight Fair-goers of all ages. In recent years the Fair has gone through a transition, resulting from the changing interests of the community and the people who cherish our agricultural roots. The improved accommodations and expanding grounds encourage use of our facilities not only during the Fair but throughout the year for special shows, sporting events, and community celebrations. Recent examples of this were the extremely successful Spring Soiree fundraiser, Shroomfest Men’s Night, Stinson Fuels’ Anniversary Car Show, Young Canadian Simmental Association National Show, plus many family celebrations, anniversaries, and mixed parties. For a number of years our Fairgrounds have also been the home of the highly successful Metcalfe Farmers’ Market, a weekly event from May to October celebrating our local producers and artisans. This added use of the Fairgrounds is important to blend our community spirit in a rural setting with our City of Ottawa neighbours. It is with great pride that I, along with our Family Division President, Andrea Taylor, and all our Directors and Volunteers, invite everyone to come to Metcalfe on September 27th to 30th to visit our 151st Metcalfe Fair!
