2005 OAAS Convention
The Annual Convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies was held in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel February 17-19, 2005. Metcalfe Fair sent an extra large contingent this year to support Mary Fisher, one of our own, as the out-going Homecraft President. The workers from the Metcalfe group joined forces with the workers from Erin Fair supporting out-going Agricultural President Joanne Gregson to look after the Presidents’ hospitality Suite and several luncheons.

The Convention itself is a meeting place of Agricultural Fair representatives. They participate in educational seminars, round-table discussions, and generally share experiences of mutual interest. There is a trade show where fairs can go “shopping” for entertainers and entertainment services, including demolition derby operators and midways. Over the years, several participants in these trade show have later found themselves at Metcalfe Fair.  The OAAS also holds a fund-raising auction (handled this year by Metcalfe’s Erin James), and the Annual Meeting. The event is attended by agricultural fairs from all across Ontario.
