Ploughing the Bowesville Road. The men on foot used shovels to cut through the snow crust to aid the plough to maintain a straight path up the road.
That's Norman & Doris Pyper's farmhouse in the background on the left. The trees in the background on the right were on Tomkins Farm, south of Mitch Owens Road, which is now part of Emerald Links Golf Course.

David Nolan wrote: Jim, I believe that the snowplough operators were Ken and Stan Johnston of Johnston's Corners. Barry Pyper wrote: Well done Jim, That puts things in perspective. What shocks me the most is that Norman was driving a Ford!!! Meredith Brophy wrote: Thanks Jim - very interesting! Norman & Doris would also remember the storm I was born in - my family lived in Kars at the time, and Mom had to deliver me at home because it was impossible to get anywhere by road, and that was at the end of MARCH, 1955). Jim McNeice brought Dr. Dowd to our house by horse & sleigh, so at least Mom & I had some medical attention! So this winter of ours is not without precedent. Another interesting note about "my" storm - Ross Taylor (Brent's Dad), was out and about during that storm, because he had chosen that particular time to go over to Woodroffe Avenue and propose to young Joyce Mulligan! (She said yes).
