2007 marks the 21th anniversary of the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. This award is a way for the government to recognize volunteers from across the province for their continuous years of commitment and dedicated service to a group.
Through their numbers and their activities, volunteers play a very important role in the quality of Ontario life. The strength of Ontario depends on the strength of our communities. Volunteers help in building diverse, vibrant communities that are safe, caring and are socially, culturally and economically strong places in which to live.
Seven members of the Metcalfe Agricultural Society were among those honoured on May 24 by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration for their long term volunteer service.
Awards were presented to Lynda McCuaig for 20 years service; Mary Fisher for 20 years service; Anne Moore for 20 years service; and William Bunda, a Youth representative, for 5 years service.
Nominees who were not present to receive their awards were William E. Buckland for 25 years service; Stewart James for 25 years service; and William Bishop for 30 years service. On hand to congratulate the winners were Lisa MacLeod, MPP, Richard Patton, MPP, and the Hon. Jim Watson, MPP, Ontario's Minister of Health Promotion. |
