Friday afternoon featured a Celebrity Cow Milking Competition. Local politicians, media personnel and other celebrities (including Fair President Chris Reaney) tried their hand at milking - the old fashioned way! The event was held to raise awareness for Food Aid, an initiative which raises funds for the purchase of local culled cows for slaughter, with the ground beef donated to the Ottawa Food Bank.
The matches (in order) were Doug Thompson Vs John Counsel; Chris Reaney Vs Brett Reynolds; Rob Snow Vs Pierre Poilievre; Lisa MacLeod Vs Glenda Eden; Mark Vanvolkingburg Vs John Major; and Dosi Cotroneo Vs Jessie Groniger.
An added feature this year was the release of homing pigeons. Each bird was sponsored, and it was a race back to their roost in Carp. The first birds arrived in Carp after a 45 minute flight from the Metcalfe Fairgrounds. |
