The Annual Convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies was held in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel February 18-20, 2010. Metcalfe Agricultural Society sent an extra large contingent this year to support Meredith Brophy, one of our own, as the out-going OAAS Agricultural President. Workers from the Metcalfe group joined forces with representatives from Arran-Tara Fair, who came to support out-going Homecraft President Joanne Miller, to service the Presidents' hospitality Suite and assist with the Presidents' Reception.
The Convention itself is a meeting place of Agricultural Fair representatives from all across Ontario. They participate in the OAAS Annual Meeting, educational seminars, round-table discussions, and generally share experiences of mutual interest. There is a trade show where fairs can go "shopping" for entertainers and entertainment services, including demolition derby operators and midways. Over the years, several participants in these trade show have later found themselves at Metcalfe Fair. The OAAS also holds a fund-raising auction handled initially this year by Metcalfe's Carson Hill, substituting for Erin James until she escaped from a stalled Royal York elevator. |
