| METCALFE FAIR INKS DEAL WITH CITY |
| Metcalfe - January 28, 2006 Negotiations which began long before City of Ottawa amalgamation came to a successful conclusion this week, when the Metcalfe Agricultural Society and the City finalized an Agreement for an exchange of land, and for use of the Metcalfe Community Centre. “This deal has been a long time coming”, says Fair President John Lackey, “and thanks to the hard work and determination of our Fair volunteers and City staff, we now have an Agreement that’s good for everyone.” When Metcalfe was still in the Township of Osgoode, a committee of Fair Directors met with Township Council to renegotiate the arrangements for use of the Community Centre, a Township facility, at Fair-time and at other times during the year. The faces around the table have changed since then, but the common goal stayed the same, and now the Agricultural Society is assured of the terms of use of this facility through 2012. In addition, a tract of land bordering the Fairgrounds on 2 sides, owned by the City, is being transferred to the Agricultural Society in exchange for the land that the arena’s Zamboni room sits on. “Both parties are getting what they want out of the land exchange”, says Lackey, “it’s a win win deal – a great way to kick off our 150th Anniversary celebrations.” The 2006 Metcalfe Fair runs from September 28th to October 1st. |
