August 20, 2014 by

The countdown continues (43 days 'til the gates open on October 2nd), and the launch sequence is definitely in "go" mode for the 158th Metcalfe Fair!

Our "What's Up Wednesday" feature will help to answer some of the questions you might have about the Fair, and also provide some information about some of the events and entertainment you'll see at this year's Fair.

Midway Bracelets/Ticketsmidway

We're very proud to feature Robertson Amusements, Canada's Traveling Theme Park since 1932, as our midway operator. They've been with us for over 10 years now, and we're happy to say that they've always provided a dependable, clean, safe and fun midway at our Fair.

After discussions with Robertson Amusements, we've made some adjustments to the bracelet and ticket format for 2014. The highlights of the midway prices, etc. are as  follows:

  1. Thursday, October 2nd, 4pm-11pm - Toonie Night - All rides are $2 each.
  2. New in 2014 - Pay-one-price Ride Bracelet Day will be Friday October 3rd only, 1pm-11pm - bracelets will be sold at Midway ticket booth - $25 each.
  3. New in 2014 - Pre-sale ride tickets (may be used any day of the Fair)$40 for 35 tickets - Available now at the Metcalfe Fair Office. Pre-sale ends at 12 noon on Thursday, October 2nd. After pre-sale ticket prices: $1.75 each, 16 sheet $25, 26 sheet $40.

Stay tuned for more midway news - we hope to have a list of rides closer to Fair-time.

Executive, Directors, and Volunteers

It takes a small army of volunteers, and many, many hours of volunteer and staff time year-round, to plan and present the Metcalfe Fair each year.

The Fair is managed by the Board of Directors, led by the Executive Committee.

That's just the tip of the iceberg ... about 400 volunteers from the surrounding community come together to set up, staff gates, help with events at the Fair, and clean up.  It's a lot of work, but we have a lot of fun doing it!

If you'd like to be part of the Metcalfe Fair team, please get in touch with us!

Big Time Pro WrestlingCrusher-Kline

We're very excited about our new entertainment event this year - Big Time Pro Wrestling! Come on out on Friday, October 3rd, 5-7pm, for this family-oriented event! The Entertainment Centre will be transformed with a wrestling ring and burly guys slamming each other to the mat!

This feature is free with gate admission - bring the whole family!!

Big Time Pro Wrestling have been hosting professional wrestling cards since 2004 around the Ontario and Quebec region.

In 2009, they teamed with local (Osgoode) hero Wayne Cryderman (Crusher Kline), a headline wrestling superstar around the world and a trainer at Bodyslammers Gym for 10 years.

In addition to this monumental achievement, BIG TIME PRO WRESTLING has selected Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa, Ontario to host monthly wrestling events and be the official home of Bodyslammers Gym, which has reopened for anyone wanting to achieve the dream of being a professional wrestler and be able to work anywhere in the industry. Big Time Pro Wrestling is proud to promote professional wrestling matches that are suitable for all members of the family. They encourage their stars and their audiences to refrain from using foul language, or risk being ejected from the building by their security team.

Demolition DerbyMetcalfe Fair Demolition Derby

Speaking of slamming ... we're gearing up again  (pardon the pun) for one of our most popular events - the Demolition Derby!

No matter what the weather's like, thousands of people come out to watch an evening of crunching, crashing, and smoking action and fun.

Rest assured that we take all necessary safety precautions to ensure that the drivers, behind-the-scenes workers, and spectators enjoy a safe, fun event!

If you've never seen a Demolition Derby, why not bring the family and enjoy discounted admission prices (Age 13 & over - $7, Ages 6-12 - $3, Ages 5 & under, FREE), as well as Midway Toonie Night (4-11 pm)!

Maybe you've always wanted to try "MacGyver-ing" a car and entering it in the Derby ... check out the Rules and Entry Forms here!

See you at the Fair!!
