What’s Up Wednesday: August 27th

August 27, 2014 by

After today, there are only 5 more Wednesdays until the gates open (October 2nd) on the 158th Metcalfe Fair!

Our "What's Up Wednesday" feature will help to answer questions you might have about the Fair, and also provide some information about some of the events and entertainment you'll see at this year's Fair.

Decorating Competition

decoratingLooking for a way to showcase your farm, home, or business? Do you want to help promote the Metcalfe Fair, and show that you have "made it your Fair"? We have the answer!

Metcalfe Agricultural Society is offering a Decorating Competition in 3 categories (farm, home, business). Entries must be located within 25 kms of the Village of Metcalfe, and must be situated not more than 25 metres from the travelled portion of the road.

The only criteria to follow are that the following must be included in your display: 1. The theme: "Metcalfe Fair ... Make it YOUR Fair"; and 2. The dates: "October 2nd to 5th".

You can use any objects and materials you see fit. Display size is unlimited, and the only guideline is your imagination!

We're offering great prizes in each of the 3 categories: $300 for 1st place; $200 for 2nd place; and $100 for 3rd place.  Presentation of prizes will take place at the Official Opening of the Fair on Thursday, October 2nd.

Many thanks to our sponsors - Velthuis Farms Inc., S.A. Hicks Insurance Brokers Ltd., Lynda & Jim McCuaig, Cheryl & Brian Sullivan, Donevelyn Farms Ltd., Shovelhead Landscaping, and Mike & Meredith Brophy.

Why not fill out a Registration Form, get the whole family involved, and see what you come up with? Registration form must be received at the Fair Office by Friday, September 5th.  Judging will start as early as September 8th. For more information call Betty Eastman at 613.821.2134.

Good luck, and have fun with it!

Volunteers

It takes a small army of volunteers to get the Fairgrounds and buildings ready, and to help put on the Metcalfe Fair each year. Without our volunteers, the Fair wouldn't happen.

We are a friendly group who take a fun approach to organizing all the events that everyone enjoys on Fair weekend, and throughout the year.

Whether you are looking to meet people, get involved in the community, or are a student in need of volunteer hours - there is always a need for extra hands!

Give us a call or send us an email - we'd love to welcome you aboard!

Kidzland Entertainment - Doug Barr Children's Show

DougBarrThere's entertainment for kids of all ages throughout the Fair weekend in our Kidzland tent, located just inside the main gates.

One of the featured entertainers in Kidzland is Doug Barr. Doug's 25 years of musical storytelling shines in this up close and personal environment.

The children will learn to read his mind, to get rid of those pesky little trucks on our backs, and discover where "Jeffrey's Jacket" is really hiding.

Take a look at the Kidzland Schedule for a listing of Doug's show times, and a complete list of Kidzland entertainers.

Truck Pull

There'll be lots of revving and roaring at the Fairgrounds on Sunday (October 5th), as the 3rd Annual Metcalfe Fair Truck Pull gets underway.

It's fun to pull, and fun to watch, so whichever you'd like to do, we'd love it if you joined the action!

Classes include 1/2 Ton Gas (weight 6,500 lbs); 3/4 Ton Gas (7,500 lbs); Street Diesel (8,200 lbs); and Pro Street Diesel (8,200 lbs).

You can register between 10 & 12 on Sunday (enter at south gate). First hook is at 12:30.
